The TRAIL brand.

Tourism Resilience: Action, Intelligence & Leadership. Decision intelligence for the people who run destinations: the identity, materials and principles for making something unmistakably TRAIL.

The people who run destinations don’t come to TRAIL to learn they have a problem. They come to find out how to solve it: which move, in which markets, when, with whom, for how much, and how they’ll know it worked. Every number keeps its source, and every assumption stays open to question.

Five letters. One promise.

The name says what we do, in the order we do it. Tourism resilience is the field; action, intelligence and leadership are how we work in it.

Action

We don’t stop at the diagnosis. Every finding ends in a move someone can own.

Intelligence

We find the problems, anticipate the impact and recommend what to do, with the evidence behind it.

Leadership

We make the decisions easier for the people who run destinations.

Know the risks. Get the plan. Take action.

Decision intelligence for resilient destinations.

One name, clear roles.

The Institute, the Studio, the Council and the Index each do a different job under one name. The second word is always Instrument Serif italic, from the supplied files.

TRAIL Institute

The reference body

The international reference that produces knowledge, methodology and solutions. It signs research, cases and the framework.

TRAIL Studio

The platform

What a destination team pays for: diagnose vulnerabilities, simulate a crisis and decide what to do, then follow it through.

TRAIL Council

The network

An international council of experts and destination managers that brings legitimacy, knowledge and cooperation.

TRAIL Index

The public measure

Tourism destinations scored on how they would hold up in the next shock, with the public source behind every number.

From the shock to a stronger destination.

The Resilience Solutions Framework: twelve areas where TRAIL helps a destination decide what to do after a major crisis, in four steps. Not twelve risks or twelve indicators; twelve kinds of solution.

1Protect

  1. Visitor Protection

Who is affected, where they are and how they get help.

  2. Service Continuity

Keep hotels, attractions, shops and services running.

  3. Connectivity Recovery

Keep or restore the ways in and around the destination.

2Reactivate

  1. Trust Restoration

Rebuild the sense of safety before uncertainty eats demand.

  2. Demand Recovery

Which markets come back first, and when to call them.

  3. Booking Recovery

Hold on to future bookings and restart conversion.

3Recover

  1. Business Recovery

Avoid closures and bring the tourism economy back.

  2. Workforce Recovery

Keep the skills and teams needed to reopen.

  3. Experience Recovery

Bring back events and reasons to visit.

4Transform

  1. Infrastructure Resilience

Rebuild so the same shock does less harm next time.

  2. Destination Coordination

Get city, industry and authorities acting as one.

  3. Future Resilience

Learn from the crisis and lower the next exposure.

A destination sees its three to five priorities first, ranked by impact, urgency, cost and who can act, with the full catalogue a click away. Consistent with the preparedness, response and recovery frameworks of the European Travel Commission and the OECD; the twelve categories are TRAIL’s own method, not an official classification.

One identity. Every time.

One line through every letter: the horizon a destination watches, and rises above. Use the original vector files, with the cut already in the outlines.

When space is limited

Use the logo alone when the full name becomes too small to read. The T, cut by the horizon, is the icon.

The icon and TRAIL Index

The T, cut by the horizon, is the app icon and avatar. TRAIL Index, with Index in Instrument Serif italic, signs the index and the ranking.

Two horizon bands of clear space

Give it room to breathe.

At least two horizon bands (15 units of the 100-unit capital height) around the full logo.

Recommended: full lockup with the descriptor 320 px wide; logo alone 72 px wide; the T icon 16 px. Below those sizes the horizon closes up.

Keep it true

  • Use the supplied outlined SVGs unchanged.
  • Forest ink on light surfaces; warm paper on dark surfaces.
  • Keep the horizon cut where it is: one band through every letter at the same height.
  • Second words are Instrument Serif italic: TRAIL Index for the index, the ranking and city scores; TRAIL Institute, Studio, Council and Academy for the rest of the family.
  • Place the logo on a quiet area or a solid brand-colour panel, and scale it uniformly.

Avoid these shortcuts

  • Do not ask image models to draw or spell the logo; compose the SVG over the artwork.
  • Do not retype TRAIL in a font, or move, thicken or remove the horizon cut.
  • Do not recolour single letters, add outlines, shadows or other effects.
  • Do not set Institute, Studio, Council or Index in spaced capitals, or spell out the acronym inside the logo.

Paper. Ink. A signal.

A quiet base gives the important things room. Use orange deliberately. Select a swatch to copy its value.

Keep labels alongside colour. Use ink for small text on orange; reserve orange-on-paper for large display accents. Aim for 4.5:1 text contrast, or 3:1 for large type.

Precision, with a human voice.

Archivo does the clear thinking. Instrument Serif adds an expressive turn. The logo itself always comes from the supplied SVG.

Archivo

Headlines, body copy, labels and numbers. Use 400 for reading, 500 for headings and 600 for emphasis. The wordmark is Archivo Bold, outlined.

Instrument Serif

An occasional expressive phrase, usually italic. Keep evidence, labels and the TRAIL wordmark in Archivo; Index in the TRAIL Index logo is Instrument Serif italic.

Real places. Clear distinctions.

Photography establishes place. Conceptual models reveal connections. Every image keeps its source and its meaning.

Documentary photograph of Valencia from the credited city image collection

Actual places

Use credited city photography for geography and context. Retain the original source and licence.

AI-generated conceptual miniature inspired by Valencia, not a geographic map

Conceptual systems

AI-generated city interpretations are illustrations. They are never maps or measured infrastructure.

Read the provenance

Generate artwork without brand text. Add the official SVG and real type afterward. This keeps the identity exact even when the illustration changes.

Curious. Clear. Accountable.

Lead with an observation. Invite a better question. Show the evidence and leave room for what is unknown.

Clear

Start with an observation. Explain why it matters.

Sounds like TRAIL
See what keeps a destination going.
Avoid: Unlock a transformative tourism ecosystem.

Curious

Invite a better question, without manufacturing certainty.

Sounds like TRAIL
What changes when your priorities change?
Avoid: The definitive answer to city resilience.

Accountable

Keep the source, time period and limitation with the claim.

Sounds like TRAIL
A provisional assessment of documented evidence.
Avoid: The world’s safest destinations, ranked.

Human

Talk about places through the people who live in them.

Sounds like TRAIL
A destination is somebody’s home.
Avoid: Optimise the resident stakeholder segment.

TRAIL is an independent research pilot. Do not imply official endorsement, audited scores or a definitive “safest city” ranking. Keep source, geography, period and provisional status with every factual comparison.

A reusable creative brief

Create content for TRAIL — Tourism Resilience: Action, Intelligence & Leadership. Read https://trail.institute/brand/agent-guide.md, then https://trail.institute/brand/manifest.json. Use the supplied outlined TRAIL SVG logo as an unchanged foreground asset; never generate or retype it. Use Archivo and Instrument Serif, warm paper #f5f3ec, forest ink #142b28 and restrained signal orange #db4b25. Keep copy clear, curious and accountable. Treat city miniatures as conceptual illustration, never geographic evidence. Preserve sources and pilot limitations for factual claims. Compose logos and final typography deterministically after generating artwork. Deliver editable source, finished exports, alt text and provenance.

Read the guide, select the correct vector, then create. Generated artwork supplies the setting; the original identity supplies the signature.
